TEEN WORKSHOPS

Family Matters - Geoff Ng

"You know parents are the same no matter time nor place/ They don't understand that us kids are gonna make some mistakes/ So to you, all the kids all across the land/There's no need to argue, parents just don't understand." - Will Smith.

Sometimes home can be the hardest place to live. In our time together, we'll discuss some of the challenges that our families face, what it means to live for Jesus in the midst of tough situations with parents and siblings, and how we can be empowered to bring Christ's love into our family situations. We'll also talk practically about how to minister to our family members, Christian and not.

On the Move Via Hiking - Doug Bolan

Once again we're heading outside to marked trails (you'll need proper foot-wear to partake in a serious hike) to illustrate some important aspects of living the life JESUS had in mind. This workshop is for those who are really serious about intentionally living for God and seeing their lives count for Him, for the Body of Christ and for those outside the Family. This workshop will also serve to encourage participants personally. Workshopees will be instructed and exhorted on practical principles that can be carried out in their day-to-day living, in their real world, when they return from TECBC.

The Search: looking at the disciples that bring us closer to God - CRISTOBAL TONG

I echo the words of Richard Foster in his book The Celebration of Disciplines, when I invite you to the double search: we who are searching for God, and God who is searching for us. The first of course, could not happen without the second. God is the initiator. It is he who plants the yearning in our hearts for him in the first place. "Our heart is restless until it finds rest in Thee," said Saint Augustine. Surely we love him only because he loved us - loved us with an overpowering, unreasonable, outrageous kind of love.

God invites us to seek him, and to seek him with all our heart. So how do we do this? Through the centuries of Christian faith and practice, we are told that our side of the pursuit of God is discovered in the disciplines of the spiritual life, "The means of grace," as they have been someones called.

What are these disciplines and how can they bring me closer to God? This is what we'll look at in this workshop.

Creative Problem Solving: What Does God Have to Do With That? – Symphony Chau

There are so many problems in our world. Cancer, war, bullying, poverty, homelessness, and the list goes on. It can get quite overwhelming. Can we really do anything about it? Genesis 1 tells us that God created things from nothing. Being made in his image, this workshop will help us be wonderful creators with our time and energy.

Disclaimer: no artistic skills necessary for this workshop, but be prepared to exercise your imagination + creativity.

The Four Loves - Henry Hwang

Relationships are at the heart of our lives.  They bring us great joy and significance, but at times, can bring us great grief.  Your relationship with your parents can be a source of comfort, but also anxiety.  Your relationships with your friends can be fulfilling, but contentious.  Your relationship with your significant other can be intimate, but consuming.  Your relationship with God is just good.  In this workshop we'll explore the four basic kinds of human love that govern our relationships.

Girl Talk - Hei Ngan

To Date or Not to Date - That is (not) the question

• Is now the right time for me to date a guy?
• What are some essential qualities I should look for in my Mr. Right?
• If my boyfriend wants to "be intimate" with me, how far can we go?

Each of us have our own set of struggles and questions when it comes to romantic relationships. This workshop aims to explore some common concerns, to create space for meaningful girl-to-girl discussions, and to share about personal lessons learned in Christ in the dating realm. There will be time for Q&A - come prepared with questions :)

(Sorry, this workshop is for girls only!)

Accountability: Don’t walk alone - Kevin Ong

A believer’s walk with the Lord isn’t always easy.  Is it really possible to do it by myself?  God created the unified body of believers to have concern for each other because He wants us to be holy.  Come and find out if accountability is right for you and the various reasons why we need it.  It’ll be different for each of us but in the end, it’s all about Jesus.

A City Set on a Hill - Wendy Calderon-Payne

Ever wonder about what God wants of us as we interact with the world outside of our family and church environment?  What is our role in the ever-increasing darkness of society?  What is God asking of us?   How can we be an effective witness on our campuses, where we spend the majority of time every week?
